Trailer Parking

This summer I worked at a trailor park with kids. I loved it so much. My attitude at the beginning was negative, I didn't want to waste my time with a bunch a little smelly kids. So the whole drive there I was upset and couldn't wait to get this chore over with. When I got there some of the people I was working with were already there but there were no kids. So we waited. We finally started going door to door to find some kids that would come out and play and listen to our bible study. Trailor after trailor we knocked on the door to ask if they had kids or if they knew which trailors had kids. The children quickly started multiplying. These strangers had never seen me before but they can't wait for their kids to come and play with me. How did they know I wasn't one of those people in a white creepy van with candy that would take their kid? It's sad to think I don't think they even cared. The kids loved us. They were running around to all of their friends homes trying to see if they could come out and play. We made it back to the field where we were having VBS and there was about 30 kids. Not too bad for the first night. Very few of them wore shoes. When we walking them back to their houses when the night was over they cried. They'd never had anyone to play with them or show interest in them. They hugged us all begging for us to come back the next night. The next evening I pulled into the field and kids were already waiting for me. Their parents had said their children couldn't wait for the nice people to get here and the parents said they were glad we were there too. We played tons of games and sang songs and had food for the kids. But of course when the night was over they were upset again. and so was I. I was crying with them when I had to leave. They were the sweetest kids I'd ever met.
